RIB tour to a fish farm and visit to Ocean Stories
Join a guided RIB tour from Honningsvåg to a modern fish farm and gain a unique insight into Norwegian aquaculture. The experience concludes with a visit to Ocean Stories, a visitor center dedicated to aquaculture, fishing, and life along the northern coast.
Tour description
Along the Arctic coast of Northern Norway, some of the world’s most sought-after seafood is produced: Norwegian salmon. On this adventure-filled tour, you’ll head out to sea to see how modern aquaculture works in practice.
The experience begins at Destination 71°North in Honningsvåg, where you’ll meet your guide and be issued a wetsuit and life jacket before walking about 400 meters to the floating dock and boarding the RIB boat. The fast and stable boat takes us out to sea through the spectacular coastal landscape.
Soon we arrive at the fish farm where the salmon grow in large pens out at sea. Here you’ll get an up-close look at how Norwegian salmon farming is conducted. Did you know that Norway is the world’s largest producer of farmed salmon? The guide will explain how the salmon live, how they are fed, and how technology and knowledge are used to run aquaculture in a sustainable way.
After the visit to the facility, the tour heads back to Honningsvåg and Destination 71°North. After hanging up our wetsuits and life jackets, we walk to Ocean Stories, located 270 meters away. This modern visitor center takes you on a journey through life along the northern coast, featuring real stories, technology, and experiences for both young and old.
Together, these experiences offer an exciting insight into how the sea continues to shape life in the north, from modern aquaculture to traditional coastal culture.
