King Crab Experience at Sarnes
See live king crabs up close and enjoy a fresh, Arctic meal in our lavvu restaurant.
Tour description
Along the Arctic coast near the North Cape lives one of the ocean’s most impressive creatures, the famous king crab. On this experience, you’ll get up close to this fascinating animal and learn more about marine life around Magerøya.
The experience takes place at our scenic camp in Sarnes, just a short drive from Honningsvåg. Here, you’ll meet your guide at the pier, where you’ll see live king crabs up close.
The guide will tell the story of how the king crab found its way to the Barents Sea, how it lives, and why it has become an important part of coastal culture in Northern Norway today. You’ll also learn more about the crab’s anatomy and how it’s prepared before being served as food.
While the king crab is being prepared, you’ll be invited into our cozy lavvu restaurant. Here, a bonfire burns in the middle of the room, creating a warm and cozy atmosphere—perfect for relaxing with a cold drink, or a cup of coffee or tea while you wait.
Eventually, the fresh king crab is served in the traditional way with bread, mayonnaise, and lemon. It doesn’t get much fresher than this.
A simple yet authentic way to experience the taste of the Arctic, surrounded by beautiful nature and genuine coastal culture.
