The mighty king crab
Along the spectacular coastline of the North Cape lives one of the ocean’s most impressive creatures, the majestic king crab, also known as the Kamchatka crab or Red King Crab. With its enormous size and unique history, it has become a true Arctic icon.
The king crab was introduced to the Barents Sea in the 1960s and has since established itself as a significant part of both the ecosystem and the local economy in the north. Today, the area around the North Cape is considered one of the world’s leading regions for the harvest and export of live king crab. Now you have the chance to get up close to this fascinating creature and experience both its taste and the story behind it. We offer king crab experiences in beautiful Arctic surroundings both summer and winter. No matter the season, you’ll get a genuine Northern Norwegian experience—close to nature, close to history, and close to the taste of the Arctic.

From the depths of the sea to your plate
One of our bestsellers is the king crab safari by RIB, a unique experience where you get to follow the king crab’s journey from the depths of the Barents Sea to your own plate. The trip starts with an exciting RIB ride from Honningsvåg to our scenic camp at Sarnes. Along the way, we stop to pull up king crab pots and check the day’s catch.
At Sarnes, you’ll get up close to the live king crab while our guide tells you about its history, anatomy, and life in the Arctic Ocean. The crab is then prepared and served in our cozy lavvu restaurant, with a crackling campfire in the center and a warm atmosphere. Enjoy a drink while you wait, before being served the king crab you helped pull from the sea yourself. It doesn’t get any fresher than this!
